Like a hot bath for feelings, complaining offers respite for the weariest and crabbiest of souls. Companions in Misery is a series of self-reflective exercises designed to encourage people to embrace their dark emotions through the act of griping and rumination. Drawing from the wisdoms of great pessimistic thinkers, complaining and the propensity to look on the dark side of things can serve as an emotional outlet for negative emotions and a social function of connecting people by acknowledging one another’s existence and frustrations, helping them realise that no one is ever completely alone in their misery.
